Norway in the World

Norway is the most northerly country in Europe. It is an independent state with its own king and queen, parliament and government. Norway is a member of many world organisations, such as NATO and the United Nations (UN) but it is not a member of the European Union (EU).

Every year, Norwegian secondary schools run a charitable scheme called ‘Operation Day's Work’ (ODW) or 'Operasjon Dagsverk' (OD) in Norwegian. The aim of this scheme is to help promote education for young people around the world. Read more

The Nobel Peace Prize is given each year to a person who has worked hard for peace in the world. The winner is chosen by the Norwegian Nobel Committee from hundreds of candidates from many countries. Read more

Since the Viking age, Norway has produced many explorers and adventurers. Thanks to their shipbuilding skills, Norwegians have travelled the globe in search of new lands and adventure for centuries. Read more

Our countries may have the North Sea between them, but Norway and the UK are close neighbours, friends and political allies. Our two nations also work together in international organisations, such as NATO, the UN and the EEA (European Economic Area). Read more
