New Ambassador to the UK

From September 1st 2014, Ms. Mona Juul replaces Mr. Kim Traavik as the Norwegian Ambassador to the UK.

 -  I have been given the dream job, the Ambassador says upon her arrival from Oslo, where she has been working for three years as Director General of the Department of Security Policy and the High North in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Ms. Juul is the first female Norwegian ambassador to the UK. 

- The relationship between Norway and the UK runs deep and wide. It is an honour and a privilege to be given the task of spearheading the Embassy’s efforts to further develop this relationship, sais Ms. Juul.

Mona Juul is an experienced diplomat who joined the Foreign Service in 1986. Her first overseas posting and diplomatic career initiated in Cairo in 1988, where she worked as a political attaché and Second Secretary. Together with her husband, Terje Rød- Larsen, she was deeply involved in the secret negotiations that took place in 1993 between Israel and the PLO, which led to the signing of the Oslo Agreement.

Juul worked as State Secretary in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs from 2000 to 2001 during the first government of Jens Stoltenberg, before she became the Norwegian Ambassador to Israel in 2001. Between 2005 and 2010, she served as Deputy Head at Norway’s Permanent Mission to the UN in New York, where she chaired the First Committee that deals with issues related to international security and disarmament, during the UN General Assembly in 2006.
