Lars Elling exhibits in Old Bond Street

The very first UK exhibition of Norwegian artist Lars Elling opens at Thomas Williams Gallery in Old Bond Street on 15 March.

Thomas Williams Fine Art is renowned for showing leading contemporary representational artists and Lars Elling’s exhibition marks the re-launch of the gallery – which has been greatly expanded and re-modelled. Built in 1900 by the Duveen family, the 2,500 square feet space has been restored to its original purpose for the first time since the Second World War.

Elling’s paintings can be described as filled with melodramatic motifs that evoke childhood, nostalgia, cruelty and anonymity. His images is said to be derived from old magazine photographs, family snapshots or even reproductions of Old Masters and explore the dramatic potential inherent in combining such familiar, but disparate imagery.

Lars Elling leads the way in the current renaissance of figurative art with his visually arresting paintings, and his work has been compared to Francis Bacon and Paula Rego.  For the first time you can experience his large scale paintings in the UK, and they will be on sale from £5,000 to £25,000.
