Norwegian-Japanese textile haven in Rugby

Cultex is coming to Warwickshire

Cultex, an exhibition project featuring six major innovative textile artists from Japan and Norway, is continuing its exhibition tour, and this time the artists will showcase their works at the Rugby Art Gallery and Museum in Warwickshire.

Cultex is a project of collaboration, process and outcome. It features six major textile artists from Japan and Norway, who have worked in three trans-national partnerships over a period of 12 months. During this time they exchanged ideas, techniques and, when spending time in each other’s studios, cultural influences. The result is an exhibition of new work, much of which is conceived as sculptural textiles and site-sensitive installations that reflect the artists’ individual and collaborative experience during this period.

Exhibiting artists include Kiyonori Shimada, Machiko Agano and Yuka Kawai from Japan, and Gabriella Göransson, Anniken Amundsen and Eva Schjølberg from Norway.

Rugby Art Gallery and Museum is a nationally recognised institution that houses an art gallery showing an exciting temporary exhibitions programme and a museum showcasing objects celebrating the wealth of Rugby history.
