100% Norway 2007

Win a designer lamp!

Visit 100% Norway during the 100% Design exhibition at Stand K4 and you could be the lucky winner of the Polar lamp designed by Fido.

To enter the competition, you will need to leave your business card in the post box at the 100% Norway stand. The winner will be announced in the Embassy's newsletter which comes out once a month.

The Polar lamp is an organically shaped mouth-blown glass lamp. The organic shape is inspired by two poles which meet, and the expression is related to the meeting point and the dynamics between air and water, or water and ice. Polar uses an advanced mouth-blowing technique where the glass is transparent at one end and opal white ate the other. The lamp gives a warm, exciting and atmospheric expression of light. It is available both as a pendant, with one single or three glass globes on a shared ceiling fitting, and as a table model, with one lamp lying alone or with two glass globes lying together as an installation object.

The lamp is designed by Fido, a young Norwegian design trio consisting of Morten Kildahl, Øyvar Svendsen and Merete Nes. The trio decided to go their separate ways earlier this year, but their products continue to do well. Fido has developed products for a number of large Norwegian companies.

"With Polar we wanted to create a simple lamp, that when placed together created new and exciting constellations. Its interlocking design makes it possible to create large lighting installations made up of several single lamps. The unique gradient of the transparent glazing was an attempt to make the lamp look lighter, like it's frozen in mid air. It almost resembles a droplet from an icicle, ready to drop."

The Polar lamp is manufactured by Northern Lighting, and it can be bought online at Pur Norsk, a new store that specialises purely in Norwegian design.

The polar lamp is one of the products being exhibited at this year's 100% Norway which will focus on glass, porcelain and textiles.
