The Norway Inn in Truro is for the fourth year in a row hosting a huge event to celebrate 17th May, attracting scores of Norwegian ex-patriots and those with Norwegian connections in Cornwall and the West Country as well as locals.
The Norway Inn dates back to the late 1700s when wooden sailing ships from Norway navigated the six-mile estuary inland from Falmouth to deliver timber that was used in the Cornish mining industry and at the nearby Perran Foundry.
The manager and executive chef Alan Poole, Kris Kool and his Norwegian wife, Kristine, have created a spectacular menu for the day, starting with a Norwegian buffet lunch and a special evening menu of authentic Norwegian dishes, and aquavit is on hand to toast the day, too. In addition to the local Stythians Silver Band, who will play in the early evening on our terrace, we will have further entertainment from Kris Cool, our local Norwegian DJ, who will be featuring top hits from Norway and the UK. A fun general-knowledge quiz will also run during the evening with funds being raised for our local Royal British Legion who does a lot of good work in the community.
