17th of May celebration in the UK

Saturday 17th of May 2014 marks the 200th anniversary of the Norwegian constitution. Join the celebration at multiple sites in the UK. IMPORTANT NOTICE: PLEASE NOTE CHANGE OF ROUTE FOR 17 MAY PARADE IN EDINBURGH.

The Norwegian Constitution of 17th May 1814 occupies a special place in Norwegian history. Not only did it lay the foundations for democratic development, it was also instrumental in providing Norway with status as an independent country.

The Constitution has been amended more than 400 times since 17th May 1814, but, notwithstanding this, is considered to be the same working document. This makes it Europe’s oldest and the world’s second oldest written constitution still in operation.

Furthermore, it makes it a constitution worthy of celebration - join us!
