Sheringham Shoal Offshore Wind Farm in operation

The new Norwegian-owned wind farm Sheringham Shoal, located off the Norfolk Coast, is now open. It will provide enough clean energy to power more than 220,000 British homes.

The wind farm was constructed jointly by the Norwegian companies Statkraft and Statoil and is one of the world’s largest offshore wind farms. It consists of 88 wind turbines - each one the size of Nelson’s Column in Trafalgar Square.

The official opening on the 27th of September began with a helicopter flight above the wind farm. HRH Crown Prince Haakon and UK Secretary of State for Energy and Climate Change, Edward Davey, both participated.
