Oh my God, it's October already! But fear not as Norwegian rock chick Ida Maria is here to heat up your mp3 player with her fab new single 'Oh My God'. Jazz lovers will be happy to hear that Tord Gustavsen Trio is back in the UK for a tour, whilst heavy metal fans should head to London or Nottingham this month for Enslaved gigs.
Meanwhile in the less noisy world of arts, Eline McGeorge exhibits in London, and Norwegian gallery Standard is one of only 150 galleries selected to take part in the annual Frieze Art Fair.

 Cool Britannia, brace yourself; Norwegian rock sensation Ida Maria is about to hit the country. The singer, who has taken Norway by storm this year, now releases her debut single ‘Oh My God’ here in the UK. Q Magazine has already fallen in love with Ida and says “The Strokes fronted by Bjork – that’ll give you some idea of the itchy, tick-tock energy that fizzes through Ida Maria’s debut single." Now, however, Norwegian comic star Nemi looks set to further conquer the UK as she gets her own book.  Tord Gustavsen Trio, renowned for a fresh and creative approach to their genre, are back in the UK again for a tour following their successful appearance at the Bury St Edmunds Festival in May. Since the recording of a debut album, that proved both a popular and a critical success, the trio have toured extensively, crystallising the musical approach and developing new compositions.  From the record 1,870 entries received for the prestigious BP Portrait Award, Ingolv Helland was one of only 60 artists chosen to take part in an exhibition at the National Portrait Gallery showcasing the best works that were entered. The exhibition has now moved to Newcastle. [+] Read more

 Norwegian heavy metal band Enslaved and one of Norway's leading jazz acts, Shining, have teamed up and gone touring together around Europe. Now this unlikely union hits the UK with full force with gigs in both London and Nottingham this month. [+] Read more

 Norwegian pianist Tori Stødle will play a piano recital in West London to mark the centenary of Norway's most celebrated composer Edvard Grieg's death. Stødle is professor of piano at Tromsø University College, Norway, and has toured extensively in Europe and the US. She has recorded a number of albums for which she has received numerous awards.  English art collector, Anita Zabludowicz has opened up a project space to show her extensive collection of both English and international art in London, including works by Norwegian artist Eline McGeorge. She has her background in sculpture, animation and drawing, all brought into the exhibition’s dramaturgy. [+] Read more

 Standard (Oslo), a gallery aiming to promote Norwegian contemporary art, is one of the 150 galleries taking part in the prestigious Frieze Art Fair in Regent's Park, London.  Widely regarded as one of Norwegian electronic music's most important artists, Geir Jenssen aka Biosphere is heading to Bristol and London for several performances as part of the Atmospheres Festival.  Based on the Oscar-nominated Norwegian cult film, Simon Bent’s hilarious adaptation of ‘Elling’ now moves to the Trafalgar Studios, Whitehall, following its sell-out success this spring at the Bush Theatre. Meet Elling and Kjell Bjarne, the odd couple of the dysfunctional world. Given a flat in the centre of Oslo by social services, their mission is to re-assimilate themselves back into society.
