London's Donmar Warehouse is staging a new version of Henrik Ibsen's 'The Wild Duck' - kick-starting the official Ibsen Year 2006 already in December.
03/01/2006 :: Should the truth be pursued, whatever the cost? The idealistic son of a wealthy businessman seeks to expose his father’s duplicity and free his childhood friend from the lies on which his happy home life is based. This is the plot in 'The Wild Duck' which is staged at the Donmar Warehouse in a new version by David Eldridge
Eldridge’s previous plays include the award-winning adaptation of 'Festen', 'M.A.D' and most recently 'Incomplete and Random Acts of Kindness'. The play is also featuring acclaimed stage actors such as John Atterbury (Petterson), Susan Brown (Mrs Sørby), Peter Caulfield (Jensen), Ben Daniels (Gregers Werle),Peter Eyre (Old Ekdal), Michelle Fairley (Gina Ekdal), William Gaunt (Håkon Werle) and Paul Hilton (Hjalmar Ekdal).
The play, which runs until mid-February, is directed by award-winning artistic director Michael Grandage, his first involvement at the Donmar Warehouse since 'Grand Hotel'. His production of 'Guys and Dolls' is currently running at the Piccadilly Theatre. Previous work for the Donmar includes 'Henry IV', 'After Miss Julie', 'Caligula' (Olivier Award for Best Director 2004), 'The Vortex', 'Privates on Parade', 'Merrily We Roll Along' (Olivier Award for Best New Musical), 'Good and Passion Play' (Evening Standard and Critics’ Circle Awards for Best Director).
