Heidi Morstang exhibition

This exhibition of video work by Heidi Morstang, co-organised by Picture This and R O O M, comprises two pieces of work: A Doll’s House and Divers. Both of these evoke the vastness and the intimacy of the Norwegian landscape. The exhibition runs from 22 April to 9 May at R O O M, Bristol.

A Doll’s House is a new commission influenced by Henrik Ibsen’s play of the same title. The work is constructed from digital video stills of a Norwegian winter landscape, densely forested and frozen, dominated by snowy hills, wide open spaces and frozen lakes, shot by Morstang during travels back home. Traces in the snow are vital visual and symbolic elements set to a soundtrack of ski blades cutting through snow, of wind, silence and cracking ice.

In contrast, Divers shows two male teenagers on a high architectural diving board set against the chilled Scandinavian sky. The work focuses on hesitancy as we witness the teenagers struggle to make their decision to jump.
