Haftor Medbøe at the Islay Jazz Festival 10th - 12th September.

The McKenzie Medbøe Duo will be the welcoming set at the Black Bottle Islay Jazz Festival on Friday 10th of September. The following day they will team up with Icelandic percussionist, Signy Jacobsdottir and Australian trombone maestro, Chris Greive for a concert not to be missed.

The McKenzie Medbøe Duo combines the talents of Scottish saxophonist Susan McKenzie and Norwegian born guitarist / composer Haftor Medbøe presenting new and original work that highlights musical diversity with a fresh and engaging approach.

Formed in Scotland in the summer of 2002 the duo has since played in the USA, Denmark, England, Wales and at home to sell-out events and critical acclaim. The duo’s music has been featured on BBC radio, as well as terrestrial and web stations around the globe.

From the outset there has been a commitment to collaboration with other musicians to achieve reinterpretation and development of the performance material. To date there have been collaborations with US hip-hop artists, Unknown Prophets, Indian violinist, Krishna Sree-Kumar and luminaries from the Scottish improvised music scene. There are currently plans for a recording / touring project with a string quartet in 2005.

With the extraordinary Icelandic percussionist, Signy Jakobsdottir and Australian trombone maestro, Chris Greive, the Mckenzie Medbøe Duo has recently released the eagerly awaited debut album, ‘Charm’. Distinctly European jazz flavours meet elements of world and contemporary improvised music in this creatively charged outing that transports the listener from moments of blissful tranquillity to flurries of rhythmically driven excitement and back again.

The Mckenzie Medbøe Duo will play a short welcoming set (30 min) on Friday 10th September, 6pm at the Black Bottle Islay Jazz Festival at the Port Charlotte Mystery Venue. The event is free.

On Saturday 11th September at 12 noon, the pair teams up with Signy Jacobsdottir and Chris Greive - an unmissable opportunity to hear exquisitely arranged and genre-bending music.
