Norway gets a new Prince

Crown Princess Mette-Marit gave birth to a boy on Saturday 3 December at 10.45 am. The Norwegian Royal House announces that all is well with mother and child.

14/12/2005 :: In an extraordinary session of the Council of State on Monday 5 December it was announced that Norway’s new born Prince will be called Sverre Magnus. 

The Norwegian Prime Minister Jens Stoltenberg made this statement following the news of the royal birth:

”On behalf of the Government it is a great pleasure to send our warmest congratulations to Crown Prince Haakon and Crown Princess Mette-Marit at the birth of their son. We also congratulate King Harald and Queen Sonja with a new grandchild. We extend our warmest regards to parents and child, wishing them all the best”.

The Prince will be third in the line of succession to the Norwegian Throne after its father Crown Prince Haakon and his older sister Princess Ingrid Alexandra who was born 21 January 2004.
