Christmas Tree lighting and Dinner & Dance

The traditional Norwegian Christmas Tree, gifted from the County of Hordaland, will be illuminated - together with all the Festive Lights in Edinburgh - on Thursday 27 November with a concert of Christmas carols in St Giles to follow. The annual Yulebord takes place at the George Inter-Continental Hotel on the following Friday.

27/11/2003 :: The Royal Norwegian Consulate General is, on behalf of Hordaland County Council, very pleased to announce the arrival of the traditional Christmas Tree, gifted to the City of Edinburgh.

The lighting ceremony will take place in Lower East Princes' Street Gardens on 27 November at 5.30 pm, by the Ice Rink, in the presence of The Rt Hon Mrs Lesley Hinds, the Lord Provost of Edinburgh, Mrs Torill Selsvold Nyborg, the Convener of Hordaland County Council, and the Norwegian Consul General, Mr Arne Sivertsen. As usual, there will be British and Norwegian Christmas Carols by performers from Scotland and Norway.

Sopranos Hilde and Hanne Hasselberg will sing at the traditional Advent Concert in St Giles' Cathedral 6.30-7.30pm. Also, Edinburgh University Chamber Choir, Espen Selvik (Horn/Lure, Conductor), Vicky Savage and Svein Schröder Amundsen will contribute to a joyful evening in the old, stunning Cathedral.

The Royal Norwegian Consulate Edinburgh in co-operation with SNOBUF and The Norwegian Scottish Asscociation invites friends of Norway to the traditional "The Yulebord" - a Norwegian Christmas Buffet Dinner and Dance. The dinner will be held at the George Inter-Continental Hotel in George Street on Friday 28 November 2003.
