Burgeoning developments in Aberdeen

Deputy Director Bill Cattanach of the British Oil and Gas Industry Development says the Springboard UK initiative has a positive influence on Norwegian-British co-operation on oil and gas matters

Mr Cattanach, who heads the Norwegian-British collaboration unit at the British Department of Trade and Industry, was present at the Springboard UK event in Aberdeen on 26 and 27 May.

Three Springboard companies have signed contracts: Porsgrunn’s Epcon Offshore with Chevron Texaco and Shell; Bergen’s Total Catcher Offshore with Talisman; and Bergen’s Multicontrol with Schlumberger.

Springboard UK welcomes four new members: Imenco from Haugesund, Kongshavn Industri from Bergen, and Sørco and Xait from Stavanger. Expecting great things from their membership the companies have begun talks with Aberdeen Springboard partners Les Haswell and ‘mentor’ John Smith, one of the heads of the world’s biggest sub sea company, Subsea 7.

Mike Sibson represented Europe’s biggest venture capital firm, 3i, at Springboard UK's May event. The Aberdeen based company has turned its head towards Norwegian technology companies and Springboard UK. 3i recently invested NOK 25.5 million in the Porsgrunn based Epcon Offshore.
