Torungen Jazz Big Band to play at The Jazz Bar Edinburgh

 Date:01/06/2008
 Type:Culture
 Location:Scotland, Edinburgh

This 18-piece band from Arendal is in Scotland just for a weekend. They'll play two sets of roaring big sounds, with a repertoire of standards and tunes by Basie, Ellington, Kenton, etc, also featuring two vocalists.

26/05/2008 :: Torungen Storband, or Torungen Big Band, was established in 2002.  For such a young band, they have established themselves as one of Norway’s most popular swing bands.  Based in Arendal, a town on the south coast of Norway, the band consists of 17 musicians and two singers.  The band members, including the band leader Karl Alfredsen, are all amateur musicians.

Throughout the band’s short history, they have collaborated with a number of professional musicians and singers and have played numerous prestigious concerts throughout southern Norway.  The band’s repertoire ranges from the traditional 30’s swing to the music of Stevie Wonder, Freddie Mercury and Bobby Mc Ferrin to name but a few.

This visit to Scotland is their first overseas tour, and the musicians are very much looking forward to entertaining a new audience with their swinging rhythms!
