‘A Commission Work for Duo’

 Date:15/09/2005
 Type:Culture, Music
 Location:Scotland, Aberdeen and Islay

Norwegian jazz bassist Arild Andersen performs live with Tommy Smith at the 'Blue Lamp' in Aberdeen 15th September.

In connection with the Norwegian Centenary, the Norwegian Consulate in Aberdeen /Mackinnons asked Norwegian bassist Arild Andersen  to compose some new music. The intention behind was to have a piece which will celebrate both 100 years of Norway's independence and also the links between Scotland and Norway.

The music will be performed for the first time in Aberdeen by Arild Andersen and Tommy Smith. These two remarkable players are both world class jazz musicians in their own right, but also have a very firm grasp of their countries'  own traditions which clearly shows in their work. The venture will not only provide a public performance in Aberdeen, but will also leave, in Arild's composition, a lasting artefact to commemorate the Centenary.

The Concert is promoted by Aberdeen Jazz and sponsored by Mackinnons, the Norwegian Consulate in Aberdeen,  Farstad Shipping and the Norwegian Consulate General in Edinburgh.

Place: The Blue Lamp, Aberdeen
Date: 15 September
Time: 8.30pm

Arild and Tommy will also perform at Islay Jazz Festival on 17th Sepember (see http://www.islayjazzfestival.co.uk/) .
