On the occasion of the centenary of the peaceful dissolution of the union between Sweden and Norway, a Flag Ceremony and Service of Thanksgiving was held in Edinburgh.

In the presence of the Norwegian Ambassador, Mr Tarald Brautaset, the Veteran Norwegian Royal Guard  performed a magnificent Drill Display and a Flag Raising Ceremony in the quadrangle of the City Chambers. The ceremony was followed by a Service of Thanksgiving in St. Giles Cathedral in Edinburgh by the Very Revd. Gilleasbuig Macmillan, Revd. Canon Peter Allen and Revd. Thorbjørn Holt.

During his visit, the Ambassador also met with the Presiding Officer of the Scottish Parliament, the Lord Provost,  Deputy Lord Provost, His Grace The Duke of Hamilton and Duchess of Hamilton, Major General Loudon, Governor of Edinburgh Castle and Tavish Scott MSP, Deputy Minister for Finance and Public Service Reform. The Ambassador also had a meeting with a number of MSPs discussing Scottish - Norwegian links.
