The Zero Visibility Corp will be part of this year’s ‘Dancing the World 08 Festival’ in Newcastle with the performance ‘I have a secret to tell you (please) leave with me’ in May, following their show in London in 2007.

30/04/2008 :: The world-class international dance festival celebrates dance and movement from around the world with performances by UK and international artists. Presented by Dance City, the National Dance Agency for the North East of England, and part of NewcastleGateshead’s world-class festivals and events programme, ‘Dancing the World 08’ will present acts from countries including Canada, China, Japan, Norway, Portugal, South Korea, Spain, Switzerland, UK and USA.

The Zero Visibility Corp was founded by Norwegian choreographer Ina Christel Johannessen in 1996. Johannessen trained at the National College of Ballet, which is now part of the Oslo National Academy of the Arts. She worked with theatre, music and television in Oslo and Bergen until she founded Scirocco Dance Company in 1987. In 1996 she reconstructed the company and changed the name to Zero Visibility Corp.

‘I have a secret to tell you (please) leave with me’ was also part of ‘The Turning World’ seasons of international dance in London in June 2007. The nature of identity and attraction weave around an enigmatic central figure in the show. Calling on a movement style that carries echoes of martial arts acrobatics and contact improvisation, Johannessen casts one woman adrift seemingly isolated in a sea of bearded men. Is she proud to be alone or fed up with being lonely? The truth lies somewhere in between as Johannessen constructs an intensely human scenario around an electronic soundscape that counterpoints the emotions at play.

‘The word "intense" hardly scratches the surface of what this company - Zero Visibility Corp - achieves on stage. The choreography is physically pulverising, and the emotional states that flicker across the performers' bodies and faces have a rawness that makes you want to look away while keeping you glued’. Mary Brennan, The Herald, 11 June 2007
