Following the enormous success of its Massed Band concert held in January, The Sage Gateshead stages a similar event on Sunday 4 September featuring British and Norwegian musicians.
In the concert, named ‘England Greets Norway’, two top European bands meet in friendly rivalry and combined forces for a stunning performance of Holst's The Planets plus individual band items. The Reg Vardy Band and the Krohnengen Brass Band from Norway with conductors Ray Farr and Karl Ole Midtbø promise a dynamic and thrilling afternoon of brass entertainment at its best, including:
Khachaturian: Sabre Dance
Sparke: The Year of the Dragon
Lennon/McCartney, arr. Adrian Drover: Norwegian Wood
arr. Tom Brevik: Fanitullen
Winter: Teddy's Samba
Wilby: …Dove Descending
Holst (arr. S. Roberts): “The Planets”
Grieg (arr. J.Gourlay): Hall of the Mountain King
Nilsen: Norwegian Dance
Conductors: Karl Ole Midtbø, Ray Farr
