The Tord Gustavsen Trio at festival in Norwich

 Date:03/05/2006 - 14/05/2006

 Location:England, Norwich

The Tord Gustavsen Trio, acclaimed for playing cutting-edge, melodic jazz, is taking part in the Norfolk & Norwich Festival this May.

The Tord Gustavsen Trio stands out as a cutting-edge romantic ensemble, playing melodic jazz without sacrificing the freedom of improvisation and the urge to create music as honest and intense as possible.
In musical temperament Tord Gustavsen must count as one of the least ‘Nordic’ of Norwegian jazz artists. If the contemplative component of his music still reflects Scandinavian priorities, the manner in which he has sought and located connections to early jazz – especially blues, gospel, Caribbean music and New Orleans jazz – is entirely his own.

Recent reviews include:
‘This group has probed into the very heart of musical meaning... There really is not a piano trio in the whole of jazz that sounds like Gustavsen.’ Jazzwise (UK).
‘Original music that is soulful, meditative and eccentric.’ Downbeat (USA)

The Norfolk & Norwich Festival is a celebration of creativity, innovation, beauty and diversity. From 3-14 May 2006, the festival brings some of the world's biggest names in jazz, classical music, comedy & dance for a time of artistic exploration and discovery.
