Norwegian singer/songwriter and myspace.com favourite Kate Havnevik, whose songs have featured on several popular American TV shows, is now releasing her debut album ‘Melankton’ in the UK.
Kate Havnevik is a half-Norwegian, half-British singer, writer, producer, multi-instrumentalist and arranger who is already a huge cult success in the USA thanks to several major TV show soundtrack appearances. Kate looks set to follow in the footsteps of other British artists such as Imogen Heap and Jem who have broken in the States first as a result of TV usage and subsequent massive word of mouth.
Kate’s website (www.katehavnevik.com) has taken an astonishing 4.3 million hits since January 2006 as a result of her music being heavily featured on several huge US TV shows including 'The OC', 'Grey’s Anatomy' and 'Commander in Chief'. 'Grey's Anatomy' was so happy with their new discovery that they commissioned Kate to write a song especially for the closing scene of the second series.
The US success has also led to Kate being number two in the electronica genre on myspace.com with over half a million plays. Already available as an i-Tunes exclusive, ‘Melankton’, hit i-tunes top ten in UK, Italy, Greece, Finland, Sweden, Denmark, Norway, Switzerland and The Netherlands. ‘Melankton’ was also the most requested album on the hugely influential KCRW radio station in LA on its release.
Self-written and recorded in Kate's own 'especially built' studio at home in London (“I turned my wardrobe in a vocal booth!”), ‘Melankton’ recalls the best in classi-tronica. Kate has worked alongside an impressive cast of fellow musicians and producers on ‘Melankton’ including Guy Sigsworth (Björk, Madonna), Marius De Vries (Rufus Wainwright) and Carmen Rizzo (Coldplay). Kate also arranged the strings of the Bratislava Symphony Orchestra for the record. She has recently written with Moby, Noel Hogan and Röyksopp (she's the voice on the successful electronica duo's hit 'Only This Moment').
'Melankton’ is preceded by the release of the single ‘Unlike Me’ on August 21st.
