The soul of the Hardanger fiddle

Norwegian Hardanger fiddler Sven Olav Lyngstad will demonstrate his formidable fiddle techniques at The Soul of the Fiddle, a 3-part musical event. Sven will participate at a conference at SOAS 28 March, give a concert at QEH 29 March and teach on a course at RAM 31 March.

Sven Olav Lyngstad:

Sven Olav Lyngstad teaches violin, viola and chamber music at the Trondheim Municipal School of Music. As a professional violist he performs regularly at various venues, in chamber music and as substitute in the professional orchestras in Norway.

Sven has given folk music presentations featuring the Hardanger fiddle in the USA, Iceland and throughout Scandinavia. He received his professional training at Trøndelag Conservatory of Music in Trondheim, St. Olaf College in Minnesota and Eastman School of Music, Rochester NY. (Master of Music - Viola Performance and Literature 1984)

A three-day conference for scholars and enthusiasts featuring presentations on: What is a Fiddle? What makes a fiddle sound the way it does? The Fiddle that went down with the Mary Rose 1545. Earning a living on the street. And Arabic, English, Jewish, American, Greek-Anatolian, Turkish, Moroccan, Indian, Norwegian Hardanger, Chinese and other traditions.  Includes a visit to the Horniman Museum and the concert at the Queen Elizabeth Hall.
