CD press launch at Norwegian Embassy Residence

In collaboration with the Royal Norwegian Embassy and Stephannie Williams Artists a press launch took place at 10 Palace Green of SOMM's unique recording of the viola edition of Shostakovich's Cello Sonata. The performers on the disc are two well-known and admired artists - violist Lars Anders Tomter and pianist Håvard Gimse.

01/04/2004 :: The duo impressed and delighted all with their performance of a movement from Shostakovich's Cello Sonata and two movements from Suite for Viola and Piano from "The Gadfly". After the performance drinks and canapés were served as the two musicians mingled with the press, Somm representatives and Embassy officials. Everyone enjoyed the positive and vibrant atmosphere.

Lars Anders Tomter is one of today's most outstanding violists ("The Giant of the Nordic Viola" - The Strad), and Håvard Gimse has established himself as one of the leading Scandinavian international pianists. Their first recording (Franck and Vieuxtemps) was released in 1972 to great critical acclaim and over the years, they have performed a substantial part of the viola and piano duo repertoire in Norway, Europe and the United States. Their forthcoming engagements include several appearances in Norway, Germany and the UK.

The unique new recording of the viola recording of Shostakovich's Cello Sonata Op. 40 is coupled with a world premiere recording of the Suite for Viola and Piano from "The Gadfly" Op. 97a and completed with the Viola Sonata Op. 147.
