Chetham’s School of Music in Manchester, the UK’s largest music school, continues to mark the official Grieg year in June with a great gala concert on Norwegian composer's actual birthday.

Chetham’s – in partnership with leading Norwegian tour operator, Hurtigruten - launched ‘The Spirit of Norway’ festival on 2 February to celebrate Norway’s rich culture and the music of Grieg marking his centenary year. Until July, they will offer the public various concerts and educational events performed by some of today’s leading Norwegian musicians.

The festival’s programme, which runs until July, connects and collaborates with a number of local orchestras and organisations, such as Wilmslow Symphony Orchestra and Gorton Philharmonic, that do so much to sustain the musical heritage of the region. As well as performances there will be workshops open to the public – with something for everyone. These will include composer workshops, masterclasses for the piano and viola, all led by top musicians as well as drama and film workshops.
