Donatella Versace's new protégé, Norwegian fashion designer Kristian Aadnevik, is back with a new collection at the London Fashion Week.

Aadnevik was chosen earlier this year as Donatella Versace’s new protégé in a project where five established names have selected one talented designer each to create a collection for them. The project, entitled The Apprentice Idea, is sponsored by Australian Wool Innovation, the largest association of Australian merino wool producers, which will provide the young designers with the most luxurious Australian merino wool for their collections. The talent of the young designers will be on show during a special gala evening held on the occasion of the Pitti Immagine Uomo event in Florence, Italy, in January 2008. If successful, Aadnevik’s collection for Versace could be launched internationally with the help of the Italian fashion house.

Aadnevik set up his own label in 2004 after graduating from London’s Royal College of Art (RCA) in 2002. His collections, bordering on couture, have a dark edge contrasting volume and embellishment with sharp tailoring, slim cut silhouette and refined detailing using the finest materials. During his years at RCA he won several awards and worked as a design assistant for Alexander McQueen. Aadnevik has designed collections for several respected international labels including chief-designer for Charles Jourdan Paris, for Japan.

He regularly features at the London Fashion Week and his last collection was presented in February during a unique catwalk show at the Norwegian Ambassador’s residence in Kensington. To see photos from the show, click here.

Following his collections at London Fashion Week, Aadnevik has already established himself as an up-and-coming designer and achieved enough attention in the fashion press to attract Versace’s attention. “My goal is to be internationally respected for what I do and build a world-wide circle of customers who can’t get enough of my clothes, and to have my own stores in all the main fashion capitals. For a young designer it’s hard to make it in today’s market without the help and support from experienced players. I see the support of Donatella as a great opportunity to really be launched as talent of the future,” he concludes.

Kristian Aadnevik presents his new collection on Sunday 16 September at a venue in Central London (by invitation only). London Fashion Week runs from 15-20 September.
