 Date:03/04/2007
 Type:Culture, Music & Contemporary Art
 Location:England, London

Norwegian composer Øyvind Torvund has curated a night in Bethnal Green, London, of musical and visual happenings. He has composed several short avant-garde folk pieces that will be performed by the Anglo/Belgian Plus Minus ensemble who will teach the pieces to other musicians by ear.

Rational Rec is a monthly inter-art social occasion based at Bethnal Green Working Men's Club, incorporating sound, music, text, performance, film and dessert into a damn good night out. Come along and be artistically, intellectually and alcoholically stimulated

Bandrom Bethnal Green is the latest instalment of Øyvind Torvund's Bandrom project, which began with the Oslo Sinfonietta in 2003 with concerts in cars and a caravan. Each event is a happening that incorporates music, visual art, video and food, and combines hybrids of sonic and visual styles.

In this event:

  • Members of ensemble Plus Minus will teach short avant-garde folk pieces "by ear" to invited musicians; food will be served as you watch the process.
  • Visual artists will make souvenirs for you based on the drawings of Canadian artist Marc Bell.
"Krull Quest" (animation film with live cello) - looking at old French ornaments and traditional Norwegian rosemaling paintings.
  • "The Stacks" - a new piece for percussion with Powerpoint presentation. New pieces for prepared guitar.
