Norwegian theme at Christmas fayre in Great Yarmouth

 Date:30/11/2007 - 02/12/2007
 Type:Christmas Fayre

Great Yarmouth will once again be incorporating a strong Norwegian theme at its annual Christmas fayre that opens for three days on Friday 30 November. The Norwegian choir Lardal Kantori will also be performing Christmas carols at St. Nicholas Chruch on 1 December in connection with the fayre.

As well as hosting a wide range of crafts, gifts and specialist food and drink stalls in the historic market place in Great Yarmouth town centre, the Christmas fayre will feature a rare opportunity to find those special gifts amongst a number of Norwegian craft stalls in England’s largest parish church, St. Nicholas. The Norwegian crafters are travelling from their homes in the Trondheim area of Norway and, as well as bringing with them traditional hand crafts and gifts, visitors to the Norwegian stalls in the church will also be able to sample traditional Norwegian waffles, biscuits and cheeses.

Also taking part in the proceedings during the weekend will be the Lardal Kantori Norwegian Choir who are bringing with them their own town Mayor to participate in the civic formalities. The 40 plus strong mixed choir will be making their fifth visit to Great Yarmouth. The choir will also be bringing with them Oslo-based opera singer Charlotte Thinglestad. The Lardal Kantori will be presenting an evening of traditional Norwegian carols at St. Nicholas Church on the Saturday evening.
