Innovative and educational theatre company, Twelve Three and A Half, is currently staging Ibsen’s famous drama of love, identity, and domestic power as their first production.
Published in 1879, 'A Doll's House' tackles subjects that are still controversial 126 years later - debt, flirtation and adultery around the Christmas Tree, with abandoned children and an ‘unnatural mother’ into the bargain.
Twelve Three and A Half theatre company was established in January 2005 with the dual aims of creating flexible opportunities for professional theatre practitioners and giving educational groups and wider communities access to high-quality, small-scale theatre.
The theatre company is unique in the way that work with Twelve Three and A Half is unpaid. However, the working patterns used will allow actors to continue with day jobs, while gaining professional credits and exposure. In turn this will allow Twelve Three and A Half to draw upon the widest possible pool of talent to ensure that it’s productions are of the highest possibly quality.
Eventually, it is hoped that Twelve Three and A Half will be able to pay its practitioners. The second aim will be achieved by a comprehensive programme of outreach work. This will comprise staging high quality productions in small local venues at reasonable prices, having a comprehensive workshop programme that will allow students and communities to interact with active professional practitioners in alignment with both curriculum and examination objectives, to gain a greater understanding of how a professional company works and the different roles that go into making a production happen and to gain personal confidence and development through working on drama projects.
