Kåre Conradi brings his one man adaptation of Ibsen's classic tale to the Edinburgh Fringe in 2012. Showing at C ECA, 4 – 27 August, Kåre Conradi will star in the one man monologue of ‘Peer Gynt’, as you have never seen it before.

Inspired by the British Shakespeare Company, Royal Shakespeare Company and Oxford Shakespeare Company, this is the very first production from the newly founded Norwegian Ibsen Company (Det Norske Ibsenkompaniet). Using just one prop and a mixture of monologue and soliloquy Kåre Conradi will perform this classic Norwegian tale in English for the very first time, opening up Henrik Ibsen’s work to a whole new audience.

‘Peer Gynt’ is the story of a young man living in the mountains of Norway with his mother. When his father dies they are left penniless and in their struggle to survive Peer’s mother turns to fairytales to escape from their tragic lives. This world of make believe and dreams of becoming emperor or king clings to Peer for the rest of his life, and shapes the decisions he makes. ‘Peer Gynt’ has been described as a story of a life based on procrastination and avoidance, which culminates in Peer encountering himself too far down the road of life. At the end of his life Peer must confront all that he did not achieve; his unsung songs, his unmade works, his unwept tears and his unasked questions.

The Norwegian Ibsen Company describes Conradi’s English re-telling as “a clear transcendental ‘Peer Gynt’ for everyone who thought they knew all about ‘Peer Gynt’, to those who didn't know they would love it”.

Conradi is a multi-award winning actor, who, with his classical training from both LAMDA and Norwegian Academy of Dramatic Arts, is one of the most experienced and sought after actors of his generation. He has performed many leading roles at The National Theatre in Oslo where he is based. Among these are many productions of Henrik Ibsen such as ‘Peer Gynt’, ‘The Pretenders’, ‘When We Dead Awaken’, and ‘Love’s Comedy’, for which he also received an actor of the year award. Conradi plays a leading role opposite Brian Cox and Lauren Bacall in the soon to be released film ‘Wide Blue Yonder’, and he recently played the leading role as the Pilot in Nicholas Lloyd Webber’s and James Reid’s world premiere of ‘The Little Prince’, at The Lyric Theatre in Belfast.
