The dynamic Scandinavian duo h2dance will present their show ‘To Die For’ in the UK in April. The show combines dynamic movement and text, and borrows its aesthetic from popular culture.
h2dance, formed by Norwegian Heidi Rustgaard and Swedish Hanna Gillgren in 1999, draws on the duo’s diverse interests to create dynamic, thought-provoking and frequently ironical dance performances with a live art edge. The work blends fast-paced movement with text, song, film and design elements, which directly communicates with an audience. h2dance has created bodies of work, which includes 'Faked' (2003), a duet based on the surreal and grotesque world of circus, 'Butterfly Belly' (2002), which explored the search for happiness and 'Ostrich' (2000) about fear and insecurity.
‘To Die For’ is a part performance, part social experiment and darkly humorous, featuring four dancers stripped down to their psychological essentials in a gladiatorial battle to define winners and losers. Convincingly cast as a diabolical ringmaster whose ‘sadistic pleasure is enough to chill the blood’ (Daily Express), Hanna Gillgren leads her victims through a series of fast-paced playground games, which become increasingly alarming in character. The performance provokes questions about brainwashing in everyday life and asks how far we’d be prepared to go to feel like we really belong. This show contains nudity and strong language.
