Following the release of her debut album in the UK in December, Silje Nes, an up-and-coming Norwegian musician, is performing at seven venues in the UK in May, starting with two concerts at the Great Escape Festival in Brighton.
Silje Nes’ debute album ‘Ames Rooms’, which is out on record label Fat Cat, was recorded at home by the Norwegian multi-instrumentalist/ singer/ songwriter, and gathers material she created between autumn 2004 and summer 2007. The music is a mixture of instruments, electronics and vocals, and was written and composed entirely by the aspiring misician, with exception of the first track, which was penned by Kristian Stockhaus from the Norwegian band ‘Ungdomskulen’. Silje wrote the songs while she was recording the music, as she explains, “It’s the recording that I enjoy, and I can’t separate that from the songwriting.”
Silje grew up in Leikanger in Sognfjord, Norway, before moving to Bergen in 2000, where she started writing and recording her own music on a laptop. Although her background is in classical piano, she would use other instruments that she has no experience of playing, guided by sounds that she loves.
