Norwegian Youth Symphony Orchestra in Liverpool

The Norwegian Youth Symphony Orchestra (NUSO) is visiting the UK with a concert in Liverpool’s Philharmonic Hall on June 28. The orchestra will perform a brand new piece written for NUSO by Norwegian composer Sven Lyder Kahrs. There are also pieces by Geirr Tveitt, Johan Svendsen, in addition to Rimsky-Korsakov´s ‘Sheherazade’.

The orchestra, which was founded in 1988, is the only orchestra of its kind in Norway and has in its 20 years of existence made a tremendous impact on young orchestra musicians. Participants are carefully selected among top young performers aged 13 - 20 from all over the country. Every summer, the orchestra comes together for an intense week of practising and rehearsing, resulting in a full symphony orchestra concert. This year, the 95-member orchestra will play in Sandnes, Norway on 26 June and in Liverpool on 28 June.

NUSO has performed at all the major concert venues in Norway, participated in orchestra festivals in Edinburgh and Barcelona, and made several TV appearances. It has many major symphonic works on its repertoire, and top musicians such as Leif Ove Andsnes, Arve Tellefsen, Vladimir Ashkenazy, Bjarte Engeset, Henning Kraggerud and Ole Edvard Antonsen have worked and performed with the orchestra.

NUSO is funded by Arts Council Norway and The Norwegian Youth Orchestra Association, who runs the orchestra, is funded by the Norwegian government.
