Nils Økland tours the UK

Norwegian musician Nils Økland is touring the UK in February with Scottish harpist Catriona McKay. The five concert tour is part of soundUK’s Sound Transmitter series, focusing on ancient and contemporary interpretations of traditional folk music.

Nils Økland is one of Norway's leading Hardanger fiddle players. Having gained an international reputation over the last few years, Økland played at the Queen Elizabeth Hall with the BBC Concert Orchestra last year, followed by three other concerts in the UK. Økland has for many years been creating atmospheric new music that draws on the rich traditions of his home country yet transforms it into a sound that is utterly timeless.

Sound Transmitter has an acclaimed track record of providing a platform for some of Europe’s most creative and innovative musicians working in jazz, folk, world and electronic music. The fourth Sound Transmitter tour sees Nils Økland and Catriona McKay, one of Scotland's most versatile and creative young harpists, embark on their UK tour on 7 February.

“Profoundly moving, full of glorious ethereal melodies that evoke Norway’s fjords and carry whispers of Scottish folk music.”  Time Out
