New album reveals true colours of Ane Brun

Norwegian singer-songwriter Ane Brun, whose cover of ‘True Colors’ was used in the recent SKY ad, will release her latest album ‘Changing of the Seasons’ digitally in the UK on Tuesday 27 January.

‘Changing of the Seasons’ recently earned Brun a nomination in the Best Female Artist category at the Norwegian Grammy Awards, which will take place just days before the UK release date. The album is produced by Valgeir Sigurdsson who has previously worked with a host of internationally recognised artists, the most notable being Björk. Brun’s last solo studio album, ‘A Temporary Dive’, was released throughout Europe, in addition to the United States and Japan, and received wonderful reviews worldwide. The album also landed Brun with a Norwegian Grammy Award and a European MTV Music Awards nomination in 2005. Her heart-rending cover version of Cyndi Lauper’s ‘True Colors’ was used in a SKY advert last year and generated considerable interest for her music in the UK.

Brun is hoping to build on the success of her last album and UK reviews of ‘Changing of the Seasons’ have so far been very favourable. Metro Newspaper described the album as “Arctic-cold-hazy, frosted love songs with stark, rootsy, jazz-inflected timbres that cast Brun’s crystalline voice against whispers of acoustic guitar and strings and the occasional sighing backing vocal.” The Word Magazine echoed this sentiment stating that “Brun is an exceptionally expressive acoustic-guitar player (…) but her main deal is her voice, a quivering soprano capable of a lovely Dolly Parton warble but more often to be found trilling on the edge of panic.”

Ane Brun will touring Europe this spring and summer and it all kicks off on February 26 when she will be performing at the Union Chapel in London.
