Norway’s Joni Mitchell…

Norwegian singer / songwriter Aasa Marie Mollen, whose music has been described as a cross between Coldplay and Joni Mitchell, will be part of the Portobello Acoustic Sessions in Notting Hill on March 19th.

Aasa, who reflects Nordic mythology with both her sound and her visual image, will be releasing her debut album, entitled ‘Angels & Stars’, this year. Her song ‘If I’ came second in The Song of the Year competition in the USA for 2008.

Thousands of people have listened to Aasa’s music trough her MySpace page, many of whom are eagerly awaiting the release of her first album. Aasa describes her music by using the following words: "My work is always to some extent autobiographical, as there was always that one incident, that one thought, or realisation, that created a personal need to transcend that experience into a song. And so I've come to think of my work as jewels that I happen to stumble across. Like jewels, every song needs to be shaped and polished, but even so, it's a treasure waiting to be discovered. So I embrace every hurt and pain, not to mention the joy and pleasure I have ever felt, as they turned out to be treasures for me to keep - and for me to share."

Her gig at The Metropolitan in Notting Hill is part of the Portobello Acoustic Sessions, which is dedicated to showcasing the brightest singer/songwriter talent in the UK. The concert is free of charge and provides a wonderful opportunity to experience one of Norway’s most exciting new artists live in concert.
