Norwegian punk rock/metal band Kvelertak will be playing at the Lexington Nordic club night ‘Ja Ja Ja’ in North London this September.
The band, which released their debut album in June this year, will be playing alongside Icelandic black metal band Solstafir and Finnish speed metal band Thunderstone on September 16. This month’s Ja Ja Ja event is curated by Metal Hammer editor Alexander Milas.
Kvelertak, which sing in Norwegian and are widely known for their furious live energy, consists of six members; Erlend Hjelvik (vocals), Vidar Landa (guitar), Bjarte Lund Rolland (guitar), Maciek Ofstad (guitar), Marvin Nygaard (bass), and Kjetil Gjermundrød (drums).
The six friends, who are all from Stavanger in Norway, draw inspiration from ‘every corner of something that could fit into their idea of good hard-hitting and catchy rock'n'roll’. Their music, described as “brutally catchy punk rock/metal with a taste of groovy darkness” has lyrical themes based around Norse mythology and Viking folklore.
Norwegian bands are frequently part of the line up at the Ja Ja Ja events. The concept allows Nordic Music Export offices to showcase some of the best emerging talents from the Nordic countries, and has been a huge success since launched in November 2009.
