The 10-piece instrumental group Jaga Jazzist has become something of a musical phenomenon in Norway since it was founded in 1994, and will now perform together with the Danish band Efterklang and The Britten Sinfonia at Barbican.
Jaga Jazzist got their breakthrough in 2001, releasing their debut album Livingroom Hush. They followed this release with blistering live concert tours and the follow-up album, entitled The Stix. This album demonstrated the band’s way of absorbing influences as diverse as Tortoise, Motorpsycho, Sonic Youth, My Bloody Valentine, Miles Davis, Radiohead and Björk – while creating their own, utterly individual soundworld.
As stated in Mojo; “Jaga Jazzist deliver with a breathtaking coup of collective improvisatory rigour, featuring melodies to bathe in and a rock n roll star female bassoonist”.
Jaga Jazzist themselves say: “With 10 members, you also get 10 different opinions, feelings and taste. With a result that the band never stands still”.
