Together with their music director Andrew Litton, the renowned Bergen Philharmonic will perform Grieg's 'Peer Gynt' in Newcastle, London and Derby this March.

In Newcastle, the Bergen Philharmonic will celebrate Norway's greatest composer, Edvard Grieg, with dramatic excerpts from Peer Gynt, followed by compositions from Russia's Prokofiev and Shostakovich. Pianist Freddy Kempf performs the most exciting of Prokofiev's piano concerti, alongside the most famous of the Shostakovich symphonies.

In Derby and London, the orchestra will also begin with all time favourite Peer Gynt and then a selection of Mozart’s opera arias and Mahler’s mighty Symphony No.4. Here it is joined by sopranos Laura Aikin and Heidi Grant Murphy.

The orchestra, which had close ties with Edvard Grieg, will be conducted by world-renowned music director Andrew Litton. In a recent edition of BBC Music Magazine, Roger Nichols praised the American conductor’s Mendelssohn No. 1 & 4 and gave it five stars. He said: “This is one of the most enjoyable discs I've listened to in a long time.”
