As recommended by Time Out this week, the Borealis Festival in Bergen will give a taste of its 2010 program at Kings Place with a festival-style night of acoustic and electronics music, film and escalator performance with both international and Norwegian artists.

The Festival Launch, which is recommended by Time Out (click here), will take place on 25 January as part of the Out Hear series of experimental music at Kings Place. According to The Wire music magazine ”Borealis looks set to become a major event in the international festival calendar”.

Along with many international artists the Borealis Festival will have performances from Norwegians Bjørnar Habbestad, Rolf Borch and Tor Kristian Liseth. Bjørnar Habbestad is educated in music from Bergen and London and performs, improvises and creates music and sound art. Rolf Borch is a noted clarinet soloist and has performed with several Norwegian orchestras and ensembles. His first solo-CD, "Step Inside", was very well received by the critics, and was also nominated for the Norwegian Grammy Award. Borch has participated in Tor Kristian Liseth’s documentary about learning to skateboard which is a part of the concept “This is why people O.D. on pills” developed by composer Jennifer Walshe.

Other featured artists at the festival launch are Mark Knoop, Moha! and Pascal Balthazar. The Borealis Festival is held in Bergen every year in March and features an exciting programme of live musical performances, theatre and light and sound installations.
