Nominated to prestigious prize

The Norwegian authors Linn Ullmann and Karl Ove Knausgård have both been nominated to the prestigious Impac Dublin Literary Award, claimed to be the world’s most important literary award after the Nobel Prize.

Linn Ullmann, daughter of actress Liv Ullmann and director Ingmar Bergman, is nominated to the prize for her novel “A Blessed Child” (2004). The novel was selected as one of the best publications in 2008 by The Independent and was also longlisted for the Independent Foreign Fiction Prize.

Karl Ove Knausgård is nominated for his novel “A Time for Everything” (2005). The novel contains versions of episodes from the Bible and is a moving story of a young man’s difficult relationship with his father.

Both books have been translated into English.

The Norwegian author Per Petterson won the Impac Dublin Literary Award in 2007 with his novel “Out stealing horses”. The judges’ citation claimed “Out Stealing Horses is a magical novel that captivates the reader”.

The Impac Dublin Literary Award is the largest prize for a single work of fiction published in English. The award was established in 1994 by Dublin City, Civic Charter. The nomination process is unique as nominations are made by libraries in capital and major cities throughout the world. This year, 156 authors have been nominated to the prize.
