Norwegian producer Berit Hedemann will be presenting her radio documentary 'Little Women: What Now?', at a London cinema on 30 April as part of the London International Documentary Festival.
‘Little Woman’ explores the consequences of Norway’s oil-fuelled economic boom on its women. The documentary provocatively cuts between its subjects, with a narrating voice that ponders the connections and implications that emerge, prompting some interesting questions about the potential of documentary not just in presenting facts but in presenting ideas. The result is a piece that is compelling, funny and, at times, disturbing.
Berit Hedemann has been Head of the Radio Documentary Department at Norwegian broadcaster NRK since 2002 and her features have won over 40 international awards. She said: “I have always been seeking innovation in my radio making, trying to make the listener take advantage of the unexpected. ... My aim with all radio making is to give the listener possibility to get not only new understanding, but new insight.”
Hedemann's ‘Little Woman’ is hosted by In The Dark, a non-profit organisation dedicated to celebrating and enriching the culture of radio documentary in the UK. In The Dark is hosting a number of events in association with The London International Documentary Festival 2010.
