Was Diana’s death caused by a conspiracy?

Conspiracy theories are central elements in Lars Laumann's video “Morrissey Foretelling the Death of Diana” which will show at David Roberts Arts Foundation in London.

The video “Morrissey foretelling the Death of Diana” (2006) focuses on a conspiracy theory which aims to “prove” that singer Morrissey somehow anticipated the death of Princess Diana. By using tracks from the album “The Queen is Dead”, a 1986 album by the Smiths where Morrissey was the lead vocalist, Lars Laumann tries to rewind history. The screening will be accompanied by a performative talk on conspirancy theories by Samuel Craven.

The 16-minute narration also uses movie clips, album covers and quotations from famous people such as Oscar Wilde and Cleopatra to underline the conspiracy theory.

The screening is a part of the Five Storeys Project's "The Object of the Attack" programme. The project consists of three experimental events which will create a "collaborative operation of exchange and dialogue about art, the science of change and our perserved notion of reality".

Lars Laumann, born 1976, grew up in the village of Brønnøysund in Northern Norway. He attended an art school in Oslo for six years, and now produces films where he deliberately uses elements from popular culture.
