Fashion inspired by Victorian accessories

Norwegian-Japanese design duo rubecksen yamanaka presents their autumn/winter 07 collection ‘dress and muffle’ during London Fashion Week.

rubecksen yamanaka consists of Norwegian womenswear designer Hilde Rubecksen and Japanese knitwear designer Tomoko Yamanaka. Their new collection is inspired by photographers Julia Margaret Cameron, David Octavius Hill and Robert Adamson, and Victorian accessories such as muffs, gloves and leather bags. Structured wool coats, dresses and knitwear are accessorised with bag handles. Knitwear features muff like shapes and dresses, blouses and jersey have shirt plackets inserted. The details on the clothes are quirky and offbeat, creating a collection of beautifully peculiar pieces.

Yarns include cashmere, lambs wool and angora, and fabrics used are wool, angora and wool mixes, silk chiffon and velvet in colours ranging from white, beige and brown to tonal greens and black. rubecksen yamanaka have recently been featured in Selvedge magazine and Trace magazine in the UK and are regularly covered in Japanese magazines such as So-en and Gap Press.

This season rubecksen yamanaka are showing during London Fashion Week in the beautiful Livingstone Studio in Hampstead, Monday 12 February 2007, soiré 7- 9 pm.
