Norwegian designer Regine Mowill showcases her 'Propaganda: A lighter + darker side of wholesome' Spring/Summer 2009 collection at London Fashion Week in Notting Hill on 14 September.
The collection, which will be presented under London Fashion Week 14 September, is inspired by nostalgia towards Norway and the light there during the summer, using techniques borrowed from the British Pre-Raphaelites and propaganda posters. This is mainly translated into sheer chiffon dresses with wheat and grape prints, which are stylistic and surreal. Mowill did a smaller show in Oslo in August that formed the basis for this extended collection. Furthermore, she will also be showcasing her works at an exhibition organised by the British Fashion Council in South Kensington.
London-based Regine Mowill set up her own label after graduating from Central Saint Martins in 2005. Having presented several off-schedule runway shows under London Fashion Week, her collections are wearable and body-conscious. They always carry a humorous narrative, often translated into prints. This season’s prints of grapes and wheat are derived from hand drawing, linocut, photocopiers and collage, screen printed onto beautiful silk chiffon and jersey dresses both in colour and in grey tones to reflect the same scenery during the day and at night. Born in Oslo to Norwegian/Japanese parents, Regine was excited to return to her hometown to present a collection during Oslo Fashion Week.
