The ‘Kebony - Naturally Norway’ show garden is the combined vision of designer Darren Saines and Norwegian wood company Kebony, and was presented at the Chelsea Flower Show on 24 May in collaboration with Innovation Norway and the Norwegian Embassy in London. Darren Saines’ design philosophy was to create a nature-inspired garden grown to flourish in the diverse Nordic climate with plants chosen for their natural shapes. The garden has been designed to reflect the unique landscape of Norway - from flora and fauna to fjords.
This is the 87th year The Chelsea Flower Show has been held within the grounds of the Royal Hospital Chelsea and it remains the highlight of the UK horticultural calendar. Queen Elizabeth II was in attendance on the opening day and paid a visit to Kebony’s beautiful show garden.
The Norwegian garden was heavily featured in the BBC’s coverage of the annual event, and has also been praised in the UK press for its environmentally responsible design and unique Nordic flora.
“The Naturally Norway garden ... celebrates the best in subtle Scandinavian design. Only environmentally friendly materials were used, including a beautiful stunted pine tree that was rescued from a quarry”
– The Daily Telegraph
“It’s no surprise to find that the Norwegian landscape provides the inspiration for Darren’s design. Using tones of coniferous forest and alpine planting with hints of mountains and water below, this is Norway at Chelsea” – BBC
“The outdoor living theme is continued in the Naturally Norway Garden with its kitchen, daybed and shower of unmistakably Scandinavian design, surrounded by plants hardy enough to survive the diverse Nordic weather conditions and a water feature to represent the Norwegian fjords” – The Independent
The Times and the Guardian also wrote about Kebony’s garden during the Chelsea Flower Show week.
