Norwegian Una Hamilton Helle is one of the main artists behind the curatorial collective 'Five Storey Projects'. From 21-30 November it organises 'Matter of Time', an exhibition by 16 of Britain’s most promising young artists in Hackney, London.
Five Storey Projects is a young five-person curatorial collective which organises exhibitions with young artists around London. One of the partners, Una Hamilton Helle, is a Norwegian artist based in London. She is currently studying for an MA in photography at the Royal College of Art.
The organisers intend to curate exhibitions and events where dialogue and the exchange of art ideas are the main objectives. They also wish to incorporate an element of fluidity to their exhibitions in terms of events, interventions, methods of thinking and further seek to engage with the environment within which the work is exhibited.
Five Storey Projects presents ‘Matter of Time’, an exhibition held in the James Taylor Building: a monumental Victorian warehouse situated in the heart of Hackney, East London. Spanning over some 10,000 square feet the space is monumental in scale and consists of four rooms of varying sizes, which will be kept in a raw state for the artists to work with and around.
'Matter of Time' will host the works of 16 of Britain's most exciting and emerging artists. They have been asked to engage actively with the space (inside, outside or offsite), while considering themes connected to the space's history and its surroundings. Interpretations of the theme will be made in terms of its location, history, topography, spatiality, building material and status.
There will be various events held during the two week-long exhibition, such as performances and screenings during the opening night, a panel discussion with a leading critic, an artist's talk by David Raymond Conroy and a walk in the area led by Clive A Brandon.
