The Norwegian artist Elling Reitan will be exhibiting in London for the first time in April. A collection of his oil paintings will be exhibited at the Westbrook Gallery in London, while simultaneously his prints and glassware will be on show at The Norwegian Church in Rotherhithe.
Elling Reitan, born in Trondheim in 1949, specialises in multi-media art, graphical prints and sophisticated glassware. Odd Nerdrum, one of Norway’s most famous contemporary artists, was Reitan’s first teacher and had a defining influence on the artist. A second key influence is the Norwegian contemporary artist Jens Johannessen.
Reitan made his debut in 1984 and has since then exhibited in over 100 individual and collective exhibitions around the world, including the USA (where he is permanently represented by the Westwood Gallery in New York), Japan, Denmark, Spain, Switzerland, Austria, Canada and Belgium. Collectors of his works include HM Queen Sonja of Norway, Victoria and David Beckham, and the Norway Cultural Council.
The exhibition at the Westbrook Gallery in London, opening on 10 April, will include more than 20 oil paintings and water colours together with a selection of prints. The separate exhibition of his prints and glassware will be on at The Norwegian Church from 13 April.
