Solid Air brings together three painters - Lars Korff Lofthus, Marianne Morild and Hanneline Visnes - who come from the same western part of Norway but live and work between Norway, Scotland, England and Germany.
There is a long tradition of landscape painting in Norway and the deep, melancholic, slightly childish way of relating to landscape, that all three of the Solid Air artists share, relates to this tradition.
The exhibition aims to explore how the attitude of 'ånd' (spirit) might manifest itself across borders and how it affects the relationship to nature and belonging.'Ånd' also implies a connection or belonging to a place, and the three artists are all from the fjords off the west coast of Norway, where the air is particularly clear since it is almost always raining.
