Ole Hagen in artistic research project at David Roberts Art Foundation, London

Norwegian artist Ole Hagen is taking part in the exhibition Time Capsules and Conditions of Now, an artistic research project initiated by curator and art critic Fatos Üstek. The project investigates the notion of encounter through the introduction of a variety of conditions where the reception and recollection of the ‘present moment’ diverges. The exhibition will take place at David Roberts Art Foundation, London 6-12 January.

The project simultaneously manifests as a publication and an exhibition. Aiming at situations that primarily embrace experience, the research team of artists, curators and writers, have already embarked upon heterogeneous threads of the conditions of now while taking in the continuously shifting constellation of time-presence-gravity.

The participating team of artists, writers and curators  are Lisa Skuret, artist & writer; Vanda Playford, artist & practicing GP; Kaz, artist; Ole Hagen, artist & lecturer;  Soledad Garcia, curator & writer, and Jean Matthee, artist & theorist.

Ole Hagen (born in Norway in 1967) is an artist working with video, sculpture and large scale drawings. Combining found locations with constructed stage sets, masks and sculpted figures with living bodies, the artist produces interior spaces populated by mute characters. The work evokes a parallel reality of a metaphysical, mental or virtual kind. By equating the animate with the inanimate, the physical with the imaginary, a comical and hyperbolic world emerges that is not far from our own. Hagen lives and works in London and teaches fine art at Birmingham City University. He studied at the National Academy of Fine Art in Oslo, Chelsea College of Art and Design (MA) and Goldsmiths College (PhD).
